The indifference of ash keys .

Some enquiries are concern and some are pure nosiness .I know which  I prefer but sometimes going over it for whatever reason really doesn't appeal .Increasingly  its a case of that was then and this is now .
So I absent myself from the interest .

Hat on , collar up out along the river . Coots call and there's a floating village of seagulls at one point .

The light is beginning to fade . Just before I turn for home I look out along the far reaches of the winding river . I see where I shall walk . Further and further as the year unfurls . It is a thought I hug to myself . It gives me pleasure .

Coming back along the tow path I stop to look up at the bunches of ash keys on the bare branches . They are pleasing shapes and they are indifferent to the unobservant and the admirer alike .They don't want an update or an excuse to bang on about their own alleged ailments .

I like the indifference of ash keys .

  1. Who can ignore the call of the coot? Not me.

    1. Also conkering .I tell people that I gather them to keep moths out of the wardrobe - but that's only partly true .

  3. I understand what you mean. I send you and yours good thoughts always, and take comfort from your pleasure in the indifference of ash keys and walks along a winding river, because such pleasure suggests there is enough mental space to allow the outside world in. Love.

    1. Mental space .Oh yes !
I had a "well meaning soul" tell me today that I wasnt a wife I was a carer now .I was fulsome in my reply . She then said that she was ending the call as I was rude .Huh if I had been doing "rude " her ears would be burning still !!

  4. It seems young ash keys can be pickled into a seductive after dinner treat, best served with fine cheese.

    1. My best advise is don't do it .
I tried it a couple of years ago .They were revolting .I had better luck experimenting with rosehips , sloes and elderberries .

    1. Yael , I was thinking about the sea and then found a substitute on my doorstep .I do hope that you can find a small something for yourself in the same way where you are . Are there any wild birds where you are ? If not what about the sanctuary of a book ....
